Nillion (NIL)
Nillion is a decentralised network for private computation and storage, often described by the project as a “Blind Computer.” Its purpose is to let applications work with sensitive data without exposing that data to the network participants that store or process it. The protocol uses privacy-enhancing technologies, including methods for splitting, encrypting, and computing over data across multiple nodes.
This design targets a growing problem in Web3 and AI: many useful applications require personal, proprietary, or confidential information, but users and businesses are often unwilling to place that data into transparent smart contracts or centralised databases. Nillion aims to support encrypted databases, private data marketplaces, privacy-preserving applications, and personalised AI systems that can use confidential inputs without making them publicly visible.
The NIL token is the native utility asset of the network. It is used for network fees related to blind computation, payments across Nillion’s coordination and computation layers, staking to help secure the network, and participation in on-chain governance. NIL also supports access to modules and services in the Nillion ecosystem.
Nillion’s product stack includes encrypted database infrastructure, AI-focused privacy tools, and developer modules designed to make private applications easier to build. These include tools for private inference, virtual-machine functionality, and libraries that allow developers to write programs using familiar languages such as Python and JavaScript. By combining privacy, computation, and storage, Nillion positions itself as infrastructure for applications that need data utility without sacrificing confidentiality.
