Status (SNT)

The project combines several functions that are often separated across different crypto products. Users can send messages, hold and transfer Ether and Ethereum-compatible tokens, browse decentralized applications, and connect with other participants in the network. Privacy is a central theme of the design, with Status positioning itself as an alternative to mainstream messaging services that depend on centralized servers and data collection. Its broader ecosystem also includes infrastructure and community initiatives aimed at supporting decentralized communication and governance.

SNT is the Status Network Token, the crypto asset associated with the project. It is used within the Status ecosystem for network-related functions and participation in aspects of governance and community coordination. Status was introduced to the Ethereum developer community in 2016 by co-founders Carl Bennetts and Jarrad Hope, at a time when mobile access to decentralized applications was still an early concept. The project remains distinctive for targeting everyday smartphone users rather than only developers or desktop-based crypto traders, seeking to turn Ethereum interaction into a more accessible mobile experience.
