HP (HPQ)
NYSEMarket Open
HP Inc. is a global technology company best known for personal computers, printers, and related supplies and services. The business took its current shape after the former Hewlett-Packard separated its enterprise infrastructure operations into Hewlett Packard Enterprise, leaving HP Inc. focused on the PC and print markets. Its portfolio includes notebooks, desktops, workstations, gaming PCs, displays, consumer and commercial printers, ink, toner, and managed print services.
The company serves both businesses and consumers, but its commercial relationships are especially important. HP sells into large enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, schools, government agencies, and home offices, using a broad network of distributors, resellers, retailers, and e-commerce partners. Its brand recognition, installed printer base, and enterprise procurement relationships help it compete in mature markets where pricing, supply chain efficiency, product design, and channel reach matter.
HP operates with a highly outsourced manufacturing model, relying on third-party suppliers and contract manufacturers rather than owning most production directly. This structure supports scale and flexibility, but also makes the company sensitive to component availability, logistics costs, currency movements, and demand cycles in PCs and printing. The United States is a major market, though HP generates a substantial share of sales internationally, giving it a diversified global customer base.
Investors typically view HP as a mature hardware and printing company with exposure to replacement cycles, corporate IT spending, hybrid work trends, and the long-term economics of printer supplies and services. Its challenge is to defend profitability in competitive hardware categories while expanding into higher-value services, subscriptions, peripherals, and workplace technology.
