Microsoft is onboard with Altman going back to OpenAI

OpenAI is in “intense discussions” with Altman after the majority of its workers said they’re not willing to work under a board that evidently lacks “competence to oversee” the company.

They also signalled that Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) has promised them jobs should they choose to leave OpenAI.

The multinational tech behemoth has already hired their recently ousted boss to head its new advanced AI research team. Still, Satya Nadella – the Chief Executive of Microsoft told Bloomberg today that he wouldn’t stand in the way of Altman returning to OpenAI.

Shares of the Nasdaq-listed giant are slightly in the red on Tuesday morning.

What else hints at Altman’s eventual return to OpenAI?

Notable investors, including Thrive Capital, are also reportedly trying to bring Altman back to OpenAI. On CNBC’s “Squawk Box”, Nilay Patel of The Verge said today:

He also pointed to Ilya Sutskever – the Chief OpenAI Scientist who has now switched to the Altman’s camp after initially voting in favour of his removal.

There’s only three members on the board now who participated in firing Altman as the head of OpenAI – the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT that has surpassed $1.3 billion in revenue as Invezz reported here.
