  • PAWS Chicago, an animal shelter from the midwest city in the US, started accepting crypto donations.
  • The donations can now be paid in BTC, ETH, DOGE, and other coins to help reduce the number of killed animals.
  • By accepting Dogecoin, the organization is allowing a dog-based memecoin to help save actual dogs.

Chicago animal rescue organization, called PAWS Chicago, recently announced that it now accepts cryptocurrency donations. The animal shelter from the midwest US city plans to have shelters stop using euthanasia for the cats and dogs in their care, and any donations will further help on the road towards achieving this goal.

The shelter announced the decision to start accepting crypto this Tuesday, August 24th. According to the statement, the PAWS Chicago will now start accepting Bitcoin (BTC/USD), Ethereum (ETH/USD), Dogecoin (DOGE/USD), as well as other coins and tokens that will support its operation.

The goal here is to target a tech-savvy demographic among its potential donors, who might be interested in putting their coins to good use. Simultaneously, the shelter is granting the mentioned cryptocurrencies and additional use cases.

On its side, the shelter will promote crypto donations via digital billboards that will feature a dog that shoots lasers out of its eyes.

The crypto community can help save Chicago animals’ lives

PAWS Chicago is strongly dedicated to reducing the number of euthanized shelter animals in the US, and over its 25 years of existence, it has conducted over 300,000 surgeries spaying and neutering cats and dogs. According to its calculations, its efforts have helped reduce the number of killed homeless animals by as much as 91%, at least as far as the Chicago area is concerned.

However, PAWS Chicago still believes there is room for improvement, and its next step towards doing so is to connect with the growing crypto community in the US. The organization’s CEO; Susanna Homan, stated that the members of the crypto industry can help sustain the future of animal welfare in the area. What’s more, they can help save the lives of abandoned pets and street-raised animals.

Interestingly enough, by accepting Dogecoin the shelter will allow the meme-based cryptocurrency — which uses a Shiba Inu as its mascot — to help save actual dogs, as well as cats. The coin saw massive amounts of exposure and popularity in 2021, thanks to the efforts of its own community, but also billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk.
