Pirate Chain (ARRR)
Pirate Chain is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency designed to make private transactions the default rather than an optional feature. Its native coin, ARRR, is used for peer-to-peer transfers on a blockchain that prioritizes shielding transaction details such as sender, receiver, and amount. This design places Pirate Chain in the same broad category as privacy coins, but with a stronger emphasis on mandatory anonymity across normal network activity.
The project uses zk-SNARKs, a zero-knowledge proof technology that allows transactions to be verified without revealing the underlying transaction data. Unlike systems where users can choose between transparent and private transfers, Pirate Chain aims to keep transactions shielded by default. This reduces the risk that privacy is weakened by a small anonymity set or by users accidentally exposing transaction paths through transparent addresses.
Pirate Chain originated within the Komodo ecosystem and is associated with delayed proof-of-work security, a mechanism that can notarize blockchain data to larger proof-of-work networks for added protection. The network is mined and maintained by participants who support its privacy-first approach, while wallets and community tools provide access for users who want to send, receive, or store ARRR.
The asset’s main use case is private digital cash, appealing to users who see financial confidentiality as an important feature of cryptocurrency. At the same time, privacy coins often face heightened regulatory scrutiny and may have more limited exchange availability than widely listed cryptocurrencies. Pirate Chain’s defining characteristic remains its commitment to shielding transactions across the network rather than treating privacy as an add-on.
