Firo (FIRO)

Lelantus Spark is central to Firo’s current privacy model. It is built to obscure the sender, receiver, and transaction amount, while maintaining a design that can be audited and upgraded more easily than many complex privacy systems. The architecture can also be extended to support confidential assets, allowing users to issue privacy-preserving tokens through Spark Assets within the Firo ecosystem.

Firo combines proof-of-work mining with a masternode layer to secure the network. Its Long-Living Masternode Quorums support features such as ChainLocks and InstantSend, which help strengthen finality and reduce the risk of certain reorganisation attacks. The network also uses Dandelion++ to make it harder to link transactions to the IP address from which they originate, reducing reliance on external privacy tools.

The project is open source and community driven, with a focus on user autonomy and transaction confidentiality rather than general-purpose smart contracts. One notable historical use of its underlying technology came in 2018, when the Thai Democrat Party used the Zcoin blockchain in a leadership election with more than 127,000 votes cast. Firo’s distinguishing role is its continued emphasis on scalable, trustless privacy for everyday cryptocurrency payments.
