Holo (HOT)

This agent-centric architecture is intended to support applications that prioritise user control, data ownership, and scalable coordination without the heavy computation associated with proof-of-work mining. Developers can use Holochain to build distributed apps for collaboration, marketplaces, identity, community governance, and other use cases where participants need shared rules but not necessarily global consensus for every action.

Holo acts as a bridge between this distributed application environment and the traditional web. Its hosting model allows people running Holo software to serve Holochain applications to users in ordinary browsers, creating a marketplace for computing and storage resources. HOT was issued as an ERC-20 token and is closely linked to the wider Holo ecosystem, including plans around HoloFuel, the mutual-credit currency designed for paying hosts.

The project was co-founded by Arthur Brock and Eric Harris-Braun, who have long worked on alternative currency and distributed systems. Its main distinction is its post-blockchain design: Holochain seeks to reduce dependence on centralised platforms while avoiding the cost and bottlenecks of conventional chain-wide consensus.
