Tellor Tributes (TRB)

Tellor Tributes (TRB) is the native token of Tellor, a decentralized oracle protocol that brings external data into blockchain applications. Smart contracts cannot independently verify prices, events, or other information that exists outside their own networks, so applications such as lending markets, derivatives platforms, stablecoins, and prediction markets need a reliable way to reference off-chain data. Tellor addresses this need by creating an open marketplace in which data requests are submitted on-chain and independent participants report the requested values.

The protocol is best known for price feeds, such as crypto-to-dollar exchange rates, but its design is broader than a single data category. Reporters stake TRB to participate, submit values, and are economically exposed to challenges if their data is disputed. This model is intended to align incentives around accurate reporting while keeping the oracle permissionless and resistant to control by a single operator.

TRB plays several roles within the Tellor system. It is used to incentivize data reporting, support staking, and participate in the dispute and governance processes that help determine whether submitted data should stand. The token therefore sits at the centre of Tellor’s security model rather than functioning only as a payment asset.

Tellor originated in the Ethereum ecosystem, where the oracle problem is especially important for decentralized finance, but its relevance extends to any smart contract environment that needs transparent and verifiable access to real-world data.
