Verus (VRSC)

A defining feature of Verus is its hybrid consensus system, called Proof of Power. The model combines proof-of-work and proof-of-stake in equal measure, with the goal of improving resistance to double-spend attacks and addressing weaknesses associated with pure proof-of-stake designs. Verus also uses VerusHash, a hashing algorithm intended to make mining practical on widely available hardware such as CPUs and GPUs, supporting a broader base of network participants.

Privacy is another important part of the Verus design. The network integrates zero-knowledge technology derived from the Sapling protocol, allowing users and developers to access privacy-preserving transaction capabilities where supported. Beyond private transfers, Verus focuses on identities, currencies, and cross-chain functions that can be used to build applications without relying on a single central operator.

The project’s long-term vision includes automatically provisioned public blockchains, sometimes described as blockchain-as-a-service. These chains can be configured for specific communities, applications, voting systems, or digital economies while remaining connected to the wider Verus ecosystem. By combining fair launch principles, hybrid consensus, privacy features, and an emphasis on user-created chains, Verus differentiates itself from many single-purpose cryptocurrency networks.
