eCash (XEC)
eCash is a layer-1 cryptocurrency network designed around the idea of peer-to-peer electronic money. Trading under the ticker XEC, it is developed by Bitcoin ABC and traces its roots to the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem, but it operates as its own chain with a distinct monetary unit, roadmap, and governance approach. The project aims to make digital payments fast, inexpensive, and reliable enough for everyday use while preserving the open, permissionless character associated with Bitcoin-style networks.
A defining feature of eCash is its hybrid consensus design. The chain retains proof-of-work mining at its base layer, while integrating Avalanche-style consensus to improve finality and coordination. This combination is intended to give eCash quicker transaction settlement, stronger resistance to reorganisation attacks, and a more flexible mechanism for network upgrades than a conventional Nakamoto-consensus chain alone.
The XEC token is used to transfer value across the network and to pay transaction fees. eCash also supports features intended to broaden its usefulness beyond simple payments, including token creation through its native token protocol and staking-linked participation tied to its Avalanche layer. Its long-term roadmap focuses on materially higher transaction throughput, near-instant confirmation for users, and protocol development that can progress without disruptive chain splits.
eCash competes in the digital cash segment of the crypto market, where usability, low fees, and settlement speed are central. Its appeal rests on combining the familiarity of a Bitcoin-derived architecture with technical changes aimed at improving payment performance and upgradeability.
