Carpenter Technology (CRS)
NYSE Market Closed
Carpenter Technology Corp is a US specialty materials producer focused on high-performance alloys, stainless steels, and engineered metal products used in demanding applications. Its materials are designed for environments where strength, corrosion resistance, heat tolerance, fatigue performance, or metallurgical consistency are critical. The company serves markets such as aerospace and defense, medical devices, energy, transportation, industrial equipment, and consumer-related manufacturing.
The business is built around two reportable segments: Specialty Alloys Operations and Performance Engineered Products. Specialty Alloys Operations is the largest contributor to revenue and includes Carpenter’s core melting, remelting, rolling, forging, and finishing activities. These operations are concentrated at facilities in Pennsylvania, including Reading and Latrobe, with additional production assets in locations such as South Carolina and Alabama. The segment produces alloy and stainless steel products in forms including bar, wire, billet, strip, and other semi-finished materials.
Performance Engineered Products focuses on more specialized, higher-value solutions that may involve advanced processing, precision forms, or components tailored to customer requirements. Carpenter’s customer base often requires rigorous qualification standards, especially in aerospace, defense, and medical markets, where materials can be specified into long product cycles.
The United States is Carpenter Technology’s primary market, although the company also sells into Europe, Asia Pacific, Mexico, Canada, and other regions. Its position is tied to long-term demand for advanced materials in aircraft engines, structural components, surgical instruments, power generation, and industrial systems where commodity metals are not sufficient.
