International Seaways, Inc. is a US-listed tanker owner and operator that provides seaborne transportation for crude oil and refined petroleum products. The company serves energy majors, commodity traders, refiners, and other charterers that rely on large-scale ocean shipping to move oil between production regions, refining hubs, and end markets.
Its business is organised around two core vessel categories. The crude tanker fleet includes large ships used to transport unrefined oil, including VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax, Panamax, and ultra-large crude carrier capacity. The product carrier fleet is designed for refined fuels and other clean petroleum products, with vessels such as LR1, LR2, and MR tankers. This mix gives International Seaways exposure to both long-haul crude flows and regional refined-product demand.
The company operates in a cyclical shipping market where earnings are influenced by tanker supply, oil production levels, refinery activity, sanctions and trade-route changes, port congestion, and global energy consumption. Chartering can include spot-market voyages as well as longer-term arrangements, allowing the business to participate in periods of strong freight rates while also seeking some revenue visibility.
International Seaways’ scale and diversified tanker classes distinguish it from more narrowly focused shipping operators. Its assets are mobile, internationally deployed, and tied to global commodity logistics rather than a single domestic market. For investors, INSW represents exposure to oil tanker freight rates, fleet values, and the broader movement of crude and petroleum products across the world’s oceans.
