Natural Resource Partners (NRP)

The partnership’s largest business is its Mineral Rights segment, which includes interests in coal reserves as well as other resources such as oil and natural gas, construction aggregates, frac sand, and related mineral assets. Its coal properties are leased under long-term agreements that allow third-party operators to mine reserves in exchange for royalty revenue. As a result, NRP’s cash flow is influenced by production levels, commodity prices, lessee performance, and demand from end markets such as power generation, steelmaking, infrastructure, and energy production.

NRP also has a Soda Ash segment, linked to trona mining and soda ash production in Wyoming’s Green River Basin. Soda ash is an industrial material used in glass manufacturing, detergents, chemicals, and other applications, giving the partnership exposure to a different set of demand drivers than coal or hydrocarbons.

The company’s assets are located in the United States, and its portfolio is diversified across multiple resource categories and regions. NRP is distinctive because it combines a royalty-oriented mineral rights model with participation in soda ash, while also evaluating additional uses for land and subsurface assets, including opportunities related to carbon storage and renewable energy development where commercially viable.
