EchoStar Corporation is a US communications company built around satellite pay-TV, wireless connectivity, broadband, and satellite network services. The company became much broader after combining with DISH Network, bringing together the DISH satellite television business, the Sling TV streaming service, Boost Mobile and other prepaid wireless operations, as well as EchoStar’s legacy satellite technology and broadband activities.
The company’s largest revenue base comes from video distribution. DISH serves millions of satellite television subscribers in the United States, while Sling operates as a lower-cost internet-delivered television service aimed at customers who want live channels without a traditional cable or satellite package. These businesses operate in a mature and highly competitive market, where cord-cutting, streaming alternatives, and promotional pricing from cable and telecom rivals shape subscriber trends.
EchoStar is also a notable holder of wireless spectrum licenses, an asset base that has been central to its strategy in mobile communications. Through Boost and related brands, it serves prepaid wireless customers, while relying increasingly on network arrangements with established carriers rather than building every element of a nationwide network independently. Agreements to sell portions of its spectrum to buyers such as AT&T and SpaceX reflect the strategic value of these licenses.
Beyond consumer TV and wireless, EchoStar provides satellite communications equipment and services to enterprises, governments, and consumers. Its Hughes business is associated with satellite broadband and managed network services, including internet access in areas underserved by terrestrial networks. EchoStar therefore combines legacy satellite media, spectrum assets, prepaid mobile, and specialized connectivity services in one diversified communications platform.
