Westlake Corporation is an international manufacturer of materials and finished products used across construction, packaging, consumer goods, automotive, healthcare, and industrial markets. The company is vertically integrated, meaning it participates in multiple stages of the value chain, from basic petrochemical feedstocks through to higher-value building products and infrastructure materials.
Its Performance and Essential Materials segment produces chemicals that serve as building blocks for a wide range of everyday products. These include olefins, polyethylene, vinyls, chlor-alkali products, epoxy materials, and related chemicals. Customers use these materials in applications such as plastics, coatings, adhesives, pipe, packaging, medical products, and durable goods. This part of the business is closely linked to global industrial activity, energy costs, and supply-demand trends in commodity and specialty chemicals.
Westlake’s Housing and Infrastructure Products segment gives the company exposure to downstream markets. It manufactures finished goods such as building products, pipe and fittings, siding, trim, decking, mouldings, and compounds used in residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial construction. This segment connects the company to repair and remodeling activity, new housing demand, water management, and broader infrastructure spending.
A key feature of Westlake is the combination of chemical production with branded and engineered end products. This structure can provide cost advantages, supply security, and flexibility across market cycles. The company’s products are not typically consumer-facing in the same way as retail brands, but they are embedded in essential systems and materials that support housing, utilities, transportation, and manufactured goods around the world.
