UK election polls highlight Conservative Party’s Boris Johnson to be in the lead

The imminent UK general election is keeping the financial markets on its toes. According to the Forex analysts, GBP/USD is likely to remain sensitive ahead of the general election and the long-term direction will be revealed after the election results are announced.

A number of the UK news publications have conducted opinion polls to get an insight into the likely outcome of the general election. As of Saturday, Conservative Party’s Boris Johnson was reported to be the favorite as he continues his lead over the Labor Party. The opinion polls, however, have also highlighted that the lead is gradually slimming as the general election approach.

Boris Johnson Received 42% Support As Per The YouGov Poll

Sunday Times’ YouGov poll has recently highlighted the Conservative Party to be in lead with 42% support against 30% for the Labor Party. The gap that previously stood steady at 14% minimum has narrowed to 12 percentage points as of November.  

On the other hand, UK Daily Mail’s Deltapoll reported a 2% drop in the Conservative Party’s support from 45% last week to 43% this week. Support for the Labor Party remained unchanged at 30%. Liberal Democrats earned the third-place with 16% support as per this week’s poll. Last week, support for Liberal Democrats was hanging low at 5% only.

Sunday Express’ Savanta ComRes poll depicted somewhat similar results. While the support for the Conservative Party remained unchanged at 42% since last week, the Labor Party noted a 2% increase to 32% support for the UK’s upcoming general election. Support for Liberal Democrats and Brexit Party held its ground at 15% and 5% respectively.

Opinium Poll Highlights Widest Lead For Conservative Party

Results of the Observer newspaper’s Opinium poll printed contradictory results. The poll reported the Conservative Party to be in the widest lead since the start of Brexit with 47% support while the Labor Party lags behind at only 28%. Liberal Democrats received 12% support as per the Opinium poll while Brexit Party received an insignificant 3% only.

Independent newspaper’s BMG poll is the latest that revealed 41% support in the general election for the Conservative Party that has gained 4% as compared to BMG’s last poll of November 10th. Support for Labor Party dropped to 28% in the recent poll while the Liberal Democrats were reported to have received 18% support.

GBP/USD has dropped sharply in the past week from 1.2970 to the weekly low of 1.2822. The pair is currently trading at 1.2829. The experts have, however, recommended the traders to be cautious as Cable’s long-term intent will only get clearer following the UK’s general election.
