Facebook to expand its workforce by 1000 new employees in London

In an attempt to expand the engineering center, the world-famous social network, Facebook had previously announced plans of establishing units outside the U.S. As per the recent development, Facebook has said in a statement that as many as one thousand professionals are likely to be hired in London in 2020. The new hiring is expected to expand the safety and product development division at Facebook following the UK’s departure from the European Union.

According to Nicola Mendelsohn who heads Facebook’s Middle Eastern, African, and European business, at least half of the new professionals will be brought onboard for tech jobs in the data science and software engineering sector.

Facebook’s Community Integrity Team Is Committed To Compliance With Policies

The remaining workers are likely to be committed to the community integrity team. The team works dedicatedly towards ensuring that content that doesn’t align itself with Facebook’s policies is quickly detected and timely removed from the social network and its related platforms like Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

Vice President Nicola Mendelsohn also highlighted that Facebook has had such plans for a while but was waiting for the Brexit uncertainty to settle before the company moved on with the implementation phase. With PM Johnson highlighting the government’s stance after Brexit, the vice president added, it was construed as the right time for Facebook to expand its workforce in London.

Responding to Facebook’s announcement, the UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, stated that Facebook’s plans of expanding its business in the United Kingdom is surely good news. The UK, he also commented, is committed to ensuring cybersecurity for its people while welcoming the technology companies to operate and expand in the UK.

Facebook’s Count Of UK Employees Will Hit A Total Of 4,000

Facebook’s COO, Sheryl Sandberg, will be making an official announcement regarding the expansion of the workforce later on Tuesday. Following the completion of the hiring process, Facebook’s count of employees in the United Kingdom will hit a total of 4,000. Sandberg is expected to accompany Mendelsohn to the World Economic Forum where business chiefs, regulators, and global leaders are expected to meet in Davos.

Facebook is still recovering from the 2018’s Cambridge Analytica scandal and is currently focused on regaining the trust of its valuable users. The scandal had claimed that a British political consulting firm received the Facebook user data in 2018 that was used for voter profiling and effective targeting. Facebook’s chief for public affairs, Nick Clegg, recently highlighted that the social network is entirely committed to preventing manipulation in the upcoming 2020 U.S presidential elections.
