UK to announce the final decision regarding Huawei’s role in the 5G telecom network

The United States of American has been pressurizing the United Kingdom to break its ties with China’s Huawei Technologies. President Trump had previously gone to the extent of threatening to quit sharing intelligence information with the UK if it doesn’t ban Huawei whose devices, as per the U.S, are a global security threat. In response, PM Johnson had commented earlier that the U.S officials must also offer alternatives if they want Britain to break its association with the Huawei as the country approaches close to rolling out an all-new 5G telecommunications network.

Business Minister Andrea Leadsom Comments On Huawei Technologies

In a statement on Thursday, business minister Andrea Leadsom reiterated that Britain doesn’t have a pragmatic alternative if it chooses to bar Huawei Technologies from its 5G telecom network. The final decision, however, regarding the future of China’s Huawei in the UK is expected is to be announced in the upcoming weeks, she added.

“Well there are other providers but they are limited, ideally there would be more providers of infrastructure similar to the work that Huawei does but the UK is looking very carefully at this issue and will be making a final decision soon. It is an ongoing process and there are all sorts of factors to take into consideration as you say like the availability of other providers, like the work that Huawei has already done in the United Kingdom, so these discussions are ongoing.”

As per the analysts, considering the U.S dissent towards Huawei that branded it as a means for China to spy over other nations, PM Johnson’s decision regarding the world’s largest manufacturer of telecom equipment is likely to shape the country’s future economic and political relationship with the U.S.

UK Will Decide In The Best Interest Of National Security

The experts also added that Huawei’s role in global 5G networks may offer a competitive advantage to China. Submitting to such an advantage, however, is not in the books for the White House. All in all, however, Leadsom ensured that the final decision will be made in the best interest of national security as well as the UK’s relationship with the U.S.

The United Kingdom is set to leave the European Union on January 31^st. During the transition period that ends in December 2020, the UK will be focused on building economic and political relationships with the other nations as an entity outside of the EU. As such, hurting the prospects with the U.S may not work in favor of the UK’s long-term goals, as per the analysts.
