  • Reddit recently introduced its Moons and Bricks community points for crypto and Fortnite communities.
  • Specific for each of the two types, there are more people interested in coins from the Fortnite community.
  • The overall interest is estimated to be a good thing, as 11,000 addresses emerged in only a few days.

Reddit, one of the most popular social media platforms today, recently announced plans to introduce its Community points based on Ethereum. The platform is currently testing two types of points — one for Fortnite players, while the other is for crypto enthusiasts. However, one thing that no one expected is that Fortnite users would be more enthusiastic about it.

Reddit brings Moons and Bricks

The crypto community spent the past 11 years in a battle to see digital coins reach mass adoption around the world. With that in mind, anyone would expect to see the community rejoice for an opportunity to introduce blockchain-based assets into a major social media platform.

However, it appears that the move thrilled online multiplayer game’s fans more than the crypto sector itself.

Reddit’s announcement that it started testing two types of community points came only last week. The platform’s goal is to bring more activity and engagement on the platform by providing incentive in the form of tokens.

The two types of points are called Moons and Bricks. As mentioned, they are based on Ethereum’s blockchain, with Moons being for r/Cryptocurrency subreddit, while Bricks are meant for r/FortniteBR subreddit.

The conclusion that Fortnite players seem more interested in the idea comes from the fact that there are more Bricks-oriented addresses created. This information comes from etherscan.io, which tracks the Rinkeby testnet, which is used for creating addresses for the two types of coins.

Fortnite players dominate with 80% of addresses

Out of approximately 11,000 addresses, etherscan.io counted 9.091 of them for Bricks, and only 2,166 for Moons. What this means is that Fortnite users dominate with 80% of addresses belonging to them.

Of course, the first assumption is that there might simply be more people interested in the game than in the crypto subreddit. However, this is not the case, at least as far as Reddit goes. The Fortnite subreddit is, in fact, larger. However, it is only larger by around 30%.

Even so, the expressed interest in crypto in the past few days is very encouraging. 11,000 addresses in only a few days is definitely a positive sign.

Even so, there were some who expressed concern that the move might trigger challenges that were already seen in the past with Ethereum’s CryptoKitties. Back when the blockchain-based game reached the peak of its popularity, it allowed players to buy and breed pets on Ethereum. Eventually, this ended up clogging the network due to a huge number of transactions.
