  • The fundraising campaign saw Zilliqa donate £4,335 to the Singapore Red Cross.
  • The initiative spanned three days and had over 38,000 twitter mentions.
  • Every member that tweeted about the campaign got 25 $ZIL as a reward.

Zilliqa, a high-performance and high-security blockchain platform spearheaded a social media project to help raise funds to support Singapore’s Red Cross in tackling COVID-19. A press release unveiled this news, noting that the campaign ran from May 26 to May 28. Per the publication, Zilliqa used the strength of its Twitter community to raise these funds.

Reportedly, the fundraising initiative involved rewarding Zilliqa users that tweeted about its #ZILCovidHeroes campaign with 25 $ZIL. For every 25 $ZIL awarded to a user, the platform donated an equal amount to the Singapore Red Cross. Users were also allowed to contribute to this course directly by donating Singapore Dollars to the non-profit organization. Local residents and corporations were eligible for a 2.5% tax reduction for every donation they made.

The initiative also saw Zilliqa work with Singapore-based blockchain-powered certificate issuance service NextID. Through this collaboration, the two firms opened a window to anyone across the globe to send a customized Certificate of Appreciation to their COVID-19 hero. Once awarded, the certificates were stored and secured on the blockchain. They also used Singapore’s government OpenCerts format for verification of credentials.

Fighting COVID-19 through social media

After the campaign came to an end, Zilliqa unveiled that it distributed 300,000 $ZIL to the participants. As such, the platform donated the same amount of $ZIL to the Singapore Red Cross. Upon conversion of the crowdsourced funds into fiat, the value of the donated $ZIL stood at £4,335.

Zilliqa added that it recorded 1,216 new wallet registrations through its tipping bot service Zeeves during the fundraising period. Additionally, the firm disclosed that the total number of tweets mentioning the #ZILCovidHeroes campaign surpassed 38,000.

Zilliqa continues forging strategic partnerships to better its platform

After announcing that it had completed the #ZILCovidHeroes campaign, Zilliqa published a newsletter, detailing that it had joined hands with KuCoin to enable staking. Per the June 3 report, Zilliqa made KuCoin its first staking partner after launching staking on its testnet earlier this year in April.
