Casa, a renowned crypto custody firm based in New York has launched a new wallet for Bitcoin enthusiasts. The company unveiled this news on June 13 through a blog post, noting that this wallet is ideal for both newbies and long-term BTC HODLers. Reportedly, Casa developed this wallet following an investment from venture capital fund Mantis VC, which is the venture arm of The Chainsmokers.

According to the blog post, the new wallet is dubbed Casa Wallet and the firm designed it around privacy. As such, the wallet will only require its users to provide a first name and an email address upon registration. Casa noted that this launch is a crucial part of its 2020 mission, which entails providing the perfect personal security system for all Bitcoiners. To help ensure that its new wallet meets this goal, the company built Casa Wallet inside the Keymaster app, which powers Casa memberships. Casa added that the wallet currently has iOS and Android versions.

Distinguishing features

Per Casa, its new wallet offers several distinguishing features. These include a seedless setup, Casa security, key Health, and next-level privacy.

Outlining why a using a seedless set up for its wallet was ideal, Casa noted that,

While the wallet is designed to keep a user from worrying about managing an encrypted seed phrase, they can still retrieve their seed phrase in case of an emergency.

Explaining how this works, Casa stated that the system allows a user to create their wallet without having to write down a seed phrase. The wallet then creates a key and stores it on their phones and then splits an encrypted backup across casa and the OS-specific cloud provider (either Apple or Google). As such, neither Casa nor the OS-specific cloud provider can access the key.

To retrieve the encrypted key, a user would have to use two factors. These are their iCloud or Google account credentials and their Casa credentials. In the case of an emergency, the system allows a user to export their seed phrase from the Casa app even if they are offline. Hence, this would let help the recover their crypto with open-source software using Casa’s recovery guide.

The motivation behind Casa Wallet’s inception

The blog post outlined that the motivation behind the inception of Casa Wallet was in 2018 after the firm’s premium clients requested a wallet that they would feel comfortable recommending to their beloved.

Commenting on how this request inspired the creation of Casa Wallet, Casa said,
