  • A travel booking site located in Berlin, Germany, recently expanded to the US.
  • The website also decided to go crypto-friendly by allowing US customers to pay with Dogecoin.
  • With this move, the company, GetYourGuide, joined a growing list of crypto-accepting businesses.

Earlier this year, the hype surrounding Dogecoin (DOGE/USD) grew so much that it made the coin the top-performing cryptocurrency of the year, at least so far. While the hype seems to have died down since, DOGE still remains a highly popular cryptocurrency. So much so, in fact, that the German travel booking website that just expanded to the US decided to start accepting DOGE as a payment method.

GetYourGuide expands and adds DOGE as a payment method

According to its recent announcement, the German travel booking website, GetYourGuide, just expanded to the United States this Tuesday. Being crypto-friendly, it also allows people to pay for bookings with cryptocurrency. However, its expansion to the US also brought a new coin that can be used to pay for the website’s services — Dogecoin.

The company, headquartered in Berlin, stated that so far, it helped book over 45 million tours in 170 different countries. With its expansion to the US, it now also offers tours, attraction, and activity booking throughout the US, in locations such as Las Vegas, Hawaii, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, New Orleans, San Francisco, Orlando, and more.

So far, the website accepted credit and debit cards, as well as payments via PayPal and Google Pay. Now, however, it added DOGE to the list of payment methods, hoping to attract DOGE fans.

Crypto adoption skyrockets in 2021

The company’s co-founder and CEO, Johannes Reck, stated that the company is ‘beyond excited’ to enter the US, particularly now, as the world is slowly but surely exiting the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The lockdown forced people to find alternative sources of entertainment, with some turning to Netflix, social apps, but also investing. With millions of people around the world going crypto earlier this year, DOGE has seen a particular amount of interest.

The company now wants to give the coin a new use case, and have people actually use it for making new memories, rather than sit around and worry about the coin’s progress from hour to hour.

Of course, GetYourGuide is not the first to accept the meme coin. Earlier this year, the Bobby Hotel located in Nashville, Tennessee, also announced that it is accepting DOGE, alongside other cryptos. Meanwhile, many other businesses and companies started accepting cryptocurrency payments as well — maybe not Dogecoin, specifically, in most cases, but it is undeniable that the crypto adoption is skyrocketing throughout the US, as well as the rest of the world.
