A major outage disrupted X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, leaving users across multiple regions unable to access the platform through either its mobile application or website.

The service stopped functioning normally early in the day, with many users reporting that the app and web interface refused to load.

Instead of displaying posts and timelines, the website showed only the company’s “X” logo, with no content visible.

As of Monday evening, the company had not confirmed the cause of the disruption or provided a timeline for restoring full services.

App and website fail to load

Users attempting to access X through its mobile app and desktop browsers encountered widespread problems.

In most cases, timelines did not refresh, posts failed to appear, and core features were inaccessible.

Some users reported that while they were technically able to publish posts at times, their messages were not visible to others on the platform.

This suggested that internal systems were partially functioning but not displaying content properly to the wider user base.

The outage affected both casual users and businesses that rely on the platform for communication, marketing, and customer engagement.

Reports indicate global disruption

According to the outage monitoring website Downdetector, the disruption appeared to affect users in multiple countries, indicating a global-scale technical issue.

Downdetector recorded a spike of over 40,357 outage reports. Of those users:

  • 53% reported glitches on the mobile app
  • 22% said they were unable to load their feed
  • 16% experienced problems accessing the website

Reports were registered in major markets, including the United States, where users in large cities were among the worst affected.

Downdetector data is based on user-submitted reports and network monitoring, and is often used as an early indicator of service disruptions across major digital platforms.

No official status updates available

Unlike several other large technology companies, X does not maintain a dedicated public status page to provide real-time updates during outages.

Historically, updates on technical issues have often been shared directly on the platform itself, either through official company accounts or posts by owner Elon Musk.

However, those accounts were also inaccessible during the outage.

As a result, users were left without official communication from the company, relying instead on third-party tracking services and reports from other social media platforms.

Part of a recent pattern of outages

Today's incident adds to a series of technical disruptions experienced by X over the past month.

The platform suffered two major outages in January, according to Downdetector data.

During both events, thousands of users registered complaints, with widespread reports of service failures.

Those earlier outages also affected timelines, posting functionality, and access to the platform, raising questions about the stability of X’s infrastructure.
