According to a recent announcement by BitTorrent, its users will soon receive a $990 million in BTT tokens as a reward. This will only include TRON (TRX) holders, however, and the event is scheduled to take place in two days, on December 11th.

This will be BitTorrent’s eleventh major airdrop, but it will also mark the end of such rewards for TRX holders in 2019.

According to the BitTorrent’s Medium post from January 2019, these airdrops mark 1.2% of the coin’s total supply. In 2020, however, the BitTorrent Foundation plans to airdrop another 12.8 billion BTT, with the percentage of airdropped coins increasing by 0.1% per year over the following five years, ending in 2025.

They announced that the snapshot would be taken once TRON hits block height of 6.6 million, which was then used for the first airdrop of 10.8 billion BTT. Furthermore, another 99.9 billion BTT was promised to TRX users, which will be delivered during offline and online events.

By the time all of the airdrops are complete, BTT will have airdropped 10% of its total supply.

BitTorrent itself was founded about 15 years ago, in 2004. The platform became popular very quickly, and it is currently used by more than 100 million people across the world.

Due to its decentralized nature, it attracted the attention of TRON’s founder and CEO, Justin Sun, who acquired it in mid-2018 as part of a so-called Project Atlas.

In January 2019, the platform also got its native token, TRON-based BTT, which was the first token to be launched on Binance Launchpad, and one of the first examples of a token sale model known as IEO. Currently, BitTorrent is one of Google Play’s best-rated applications.
