Ardor (ARDR)
Ardor is a blockchain-as-a-service platform built to give businesses and developers ready-made blockchain infrastructure without requiring them to create and secure an entirely new network from scratch. The project is developed by Jelurida and grows out of the earlier Nxt blockchain, one of the longer-running proof-of-stake blockchain projects. Ardor’s core design separates network security from application-specific activity through a parent-chain and child-chain architecture.
The Ardor main chain is responsible for consensus, security and decentralisation, while child chains can be tailored for particular use cases. This structure is intended to reduce blockchain bloat, improve scalability and make it easier for organisations to launch tokens, applications or permissioned services without managing a standalone blockchain. Child chains can use their own tokens for economic activity while relying on the Ardor parent chain for validation.
Ignis is the best-known child chain in the Ardor ecosystem and serves as a working example of the platform’s features. It supports functionality inherited from the Nxt codebase, including asset issuance, messaging, voting, marketplaces and other built-in blockchain tools. The broader concept is that additional child chains can be created for enterprise applications, digital asset platforms, secure data transfer, loyalty systems or other blockchain-based services.
ARDR is the native token of the Ardor parent chain and is used in the network’s proof-of-stake consensus and transaction-fee model. A notable practical feature of Ardor is that it is developed in Java, a widely used programming language, which can make the platform more approachable for traditional software teams exploring blockchain deployment.
