MultiversX (EGLD)

The network’s core technical feature is adaptive state sharding. Rather than relying on a single chain to process all activity, MultiversX splits work across shards, including transaction processing, network communication, and state management. Execution shards process transactions in parallel, while a coordinating layer known as the Metachain finalises and organises activity across the system. This architecture is intended to let the network expand capacity as demand grows, without forcing every node to process the same workload.

EGLD plays several roles in this design. Users pay transaction fees in EGLD, developers deploy and interact with smart contracts using it, and validators stake EGLD to help secure consensus. Token holders may also take part in governance decisions, depending on the mechanisms active within the ecosystem.

MultiversX also seeks to attract developers by supporting decentralised applications and by sharing a portion of smart contract fees with builders. Its broader ecosystem includes wallets, DeFi tools, NFT infrastructure, and applications aimed at mainstream Web3 adoption. The project’s distinguishing claim is the combination of smart contract functionality with a sharded architecture built to support large-scale, low-latency blockchain usage.
