Caterpillar Inc (CAT)
NYSEMarket Open
Caterpillar Inc. is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of heavy equipment and industrial power systems. The company produces machinery used in construction, mining, quarrying, infrastructure development, energy production, transportation, and material handling. Its product range includes excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, haul trucks, motor graders, engines, turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives, sold under one of the most recognisable brands in global industry.
The business is organised around major end markets including construction industries, resource industries, and energy and transportation. Construction equipment serves residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects, while resource industries supplies large machines used by mining and aggregates customers. The energy and transportation segment provides engines, generator sets, turbines, and locomotives for oil and gas, power generation, marine, rail, and industrial applications.
Caterpillar’s competitive strength comes not only from manufacturing scale but also from its dealer network. Independent dealers operate thousands of locations worldwide, giving customers access to sales, financing support, replacement parts, maintenance, repair, rental equipment, and field service. This aftermarket and service infrastructure is central to the company’s durability because many customers depend on high machine uptime in demanding operating environments.
The company also operates a captive finance arm that supports equipment purchases and leasing, helping customers acquire machinery while strengthening Caterpillar’s commercial relationships. Its revenue is globally diversified, with meaningful exposure to both the United States and international markets.
Caterpillar is closely tied to capital spending cycles, commodity production, infrastructure investment, energy demand, and fleet replacement trends. Its scale, brand reputation, installed base, and parts-and-service ecosystem make it a bellwether for global industrial activity.
