Fiat had announced a merger with Chrysler in 2009. Following the merger, Ram was created as a subsidiary to focus entirely on the niche of pickup trucks while Dodge was confined to designing the performance cars. Many of the market experts had opinionated at the time that Ram will turn out to be a hefty burden for Fiat in the long run. Having won the MotorTrend’s title for two years in a row, however, the pickup brand has now sufficiently proven its worth.
As per a recent report, sales for Ram’s pickup trucks have almost tripled in the last decade as the brand emerges as a staunch competitor of GM Motors and Ford Motor Company in this niche. The report further adds that Ram is eating a huge chunk of pickup sales away from the two rivals.
Ram’s Pickup Trucks Are Gradually Expanding The Market Share
According to experts, Ram has employed a clever strategy of not going toe-to-toe with its rivals. Instead of focusing on towing or relevant purposes, Ram sticks to building all-around trucks with a modern exterior and interior design that highlights advanced tech-features as well. The experts further added that it was a risky move for Ram as truck buyers are widely known to be practical in their decision and look for a vehicle that serves a very specific purpose.
According to the report, however, the risk is translating into higher rewards for Ram in terms of gradually expanding market share as well as critical praise. The market specialists have now remarked that GM and Ford are likely to follow Ram’s track in order to maintain their status as the largest names in the niche of pickup trucks.
