  • Zcash's Zecwallet team recently announced plans to create a mobile version of the wallet.
  • Mobile version would be available for Android and iOS, and it would require around 4.5 weeks to be complete.
  • The team is currently waiting for approval on their proposal.

Zecwallet, a cryptocurrency wallet for privacy coin Zcash (ZEC) is about to see the arrival of its mobile version for Android and iOS. The new development comes after a recent announcement, which states that the team submitted a proposal to create a Lite version of the app.

The announcement posted by the Zecwallet team on their Twitter account reveals even more. It claims that the new wallet if approved, will arrive with full z-address and memo support.

Most of the code already exists

Sources familiar with the matter revealed additional details, stating that the wallet will reuse most of the code from the desktop lite version. If that is the case, that would mean that the wallet would have support for transparent addresses, Sapling, memos, address book, and all other features that the desktop version offers.

In essence, the app will be built on the same foundations from the technical standpoint, as the desktop version. The business logic, the RPC connection code, and other features would mostly be reused in their current form.

However, this would not be the case with absolutely all elements. For example, the UI elements that are different between React native and React desktop would have to be re-written. However, some estimates say that only 20% of the code will need to be re-written, while the majority can be used as it is.

The app could be done in about a month

It is also mentioned that the project might take around 4.5 weeks for the app to be completed for both systems. The announcement dedicated 2 weeks towards the development of the Android version, and as much time for the development of iOS. Lastly, 0.5 weeks will be needed for benchmarking, testing, and server-side infra setup. Finally, the estimated cost of the project sits at $33,000, due to an hourly rate of $187.5.
