  • The NFTs will connect fans and collectors to the show, with huge rewards for winners over 5 weeks.

America Idol is set to offer fans a chance to celebrate the talent show’s 20th season in style after it announced the launch of a unique non-fungible token (NFT) collection.

The American Idol’s NFT trading cards will be powered by Theta Network, with the collectibles available on the crypto platform’s NFT marketplace ThetaDrop.

The television show hopes these real-time predictive NFTs, the first of their kind in a growing NFT universe, will help connect fans and collectors to their favourite contestants.

Vote…and be 'the judge' too

Any fan or collector can purchase the limited edition NFT trading cards and for five weeks, stand a chance to win great prizes. Fans can trade or swap the cards on ThetaDrop.

Idol series Showrunner and Executive Producer Megan Michaels commented on the partnership with Theta Labs as part of the company’s goal of keeping up with innovation.

Mitch Liu, CEO and co-founder of Theta Labs said:

Great prizes include the exclusive ‘Ticket to Hollywood’

An “American Idol NFT Card Pack” will sell for $99 and offer the holder access to a random NFT card representing one of the show’s contestants. These will be from among the top 14.

Over five weeks starting 25 April, those with the correct number of contestant NFTs could win some tantalizing prizes.

These include an exclusive “Ticket to Hollywood” NFT for the fan or collector whose contestant NFT represents the show’s winner. The winner can redeem this NFT for a physical ticket to Hollywood. Other prizes are an American Idol 20th Anniversary Animated Logo NFT and 300 ThetaDrop (DROP) tokens.

American Idol’s collaboration with Theta Network adds to a growing list of internationally-recognised brands and celebrities teaming up with the blockchain platform.

In February, electronics giant Samsung partnered with Theta Networks in the launch of the Galaxy S22 smartphone. Theta has also worked with pop icon Katy Perry, soulstress Dionne Warwick; and the World Poker Tour among others.
