Bard will be powered by Google’s LaMDA

On Monday, Google confirmed that its artificial intelligence chatbot it’s calling “Bard” will be available soon to “trusted testers” before it’s rolled out to the broader audience.

We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety, and groundedness in real-world information.

Bard will use Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA) to rival ChatGPT that recently secured a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar investment from Microsoft as part of its broader push to challenge Google’s monopoly in internet search.

ChatGPT has already surpassed 100 million users to become the fasted growing internet app ever.

Google also confirmed that Bard will initially run on a “lightweight” version of LaMDA and, therefore, will need much less computing power. Its blog post also reads:

Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web.

Just day ago, the multinational that touts itself as a pioneer in artificial intelligence reported results for its fourth financial quarter that came in shy of Street estimates (read more).

The tech behemoth is also in the process of cutting about 12,000 employees to better prepare for the coming recession. Shares of Alphabet Inc are currently up 15% versus the start of the year.
