  • Nancy Pelosi is one of the most profitable traders in Congress.

  • She owns companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, Visa, and CrowdStrike.

American politicians are known for generating strong returns in the stock market. This is partly because many of them sit in committees and receive classified information. For example, it is well-known that many politicians sold stocks before COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in 2020.

US politicians are buying stocks

It is also widely known that many politicians in the House of Representatives and Senate hold many military-industrial complex stocks as they advocate for endless wars. Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, and the former Speaker of the house, has been known for being a highly experienced trader.

Together with her husband, Pelosi has accumulated substantial wealth. According to Quiver Quantitative, Nancy Pelosi has a net worth of over $189 million. This is a huge sum considering that Nancy has been a politics for decades. She was elected in Congress in 1987 and has been re-elected 19 times. Also, keep in mind that US politicians don’t earn a lot of money. Her highest salary was when she was Speaker as she earned $223k per year.

Nancy Pelosi has historically outperformed some of the best-known investors in Wall Street. Data shows that her returns last year stood at 61%, beating the S&P 500 index, which rose by 25%. She also outperformed the likes of Ken Griffin and Bill Ackman. Other top traders in Congress are the likes of Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma and Suzan DelBene.

Nancy Pelosi portfolio

Nancy Pelosi’s portfolio has done well because it is highly weighted towards technology companies, which have jumped sharply in the past few months. She owns a stake in Nvidia, the semiconductor company that has become the fifth biggest company in the world after Microsoft, Apple, Saudi Aramco, and Google.

Nvidia shares have surged because of its strong growth in the semiconductor industry because of artificial intelligence. Just last week, it was reported that Sam Altman was raising $7 trillion to invest in AI chips.

Pelosi also owns stakes in companies like Apple, Microsoft, Visa, Salesforce, Disney, CrowdStrike, Tesla, and American Express. Some of these companies like Visa, Google, and Salesforce have donated towards her political war chest in the past.

Still, Pelosi’s investments mean that she is in some of the most crowded trades in Wall Street since most retail and institutional investors own some of them. Even those who don’t own Nvidia, Microsoft, and Apple directly own them because the are the biggest parts in popular ETFs like SPY and QQQ.
