Anthropic reveals its fastest AI model to date

Anthropic is in focus this morning after announcing its most powerful AI model to date - the Claude 3.5 Sonnet. 

What we know about Claude 3.5 Sonnet

The artificial intelligence startup is not yet publicly listed to trade. 

Anthropic is a popular name in the AI race and has raised a total of some $7.3 billion in five rounds. Among its notable backers are Amazon.com Inc, Salesforce, and Google. 

The Claude 3.5 Sonnet news arrives only weeks after rival OpenAI announced the GPT-4o. Anthropic claims the new AI model it revealed today to be materially faster than Claude 3 Opus - its predecessor. 

How much does Claude 3.5 Sonnet cost?

Claude 3.5 Sonnet is available for free on the AI startup’s website (Claude.ai) as well its iPhone app. 

Those subscribed to Claude Pro and Team will be able to experience it with higher rate limits. Anthropic also said in a blog post on Thursday:

Today’s announcement strengthens Anthropic’s positioning in the artificial intelligence market that Statista forecasts will top a $1.0 trillion in valuation within the next ten years. The artificial intelligence firm announced its first-ever enterprise offering as well in May. 

Anthropic announces Artifacts

Anthropic also revealed “Artifacts” on Thursday that enables a user to have a text document generated. The new offering will also be able to generate a code and execute it in a dedicated window. 

The AI company expects Artifacts to be particularly useful for legal contracts, business reports, coding, and analysis. Note that Mike Krieger - a cofounder of Instagram joined Anthropic as its chief product officer in May. 

Krieger helped Instagram surpass 1 billion users globally and expanded its engineering staff to over 450 during his tenure. Jan Leike of OpenAI also joined Anthropic last month. 

Anthropic was recently reported to have hit a valuation of over $18 billion as a private company. In comparison, its peer Mistral AI that’s backed by Microsoft sought to raise $600 million at a valuation of $6.0 billion in May.

Also last month, Anthropic launched its AI assistant (Claude) in Europe in several languages including German, French, Spanish, and Italian.
