California dominates list of richest self-made female entrepreneurs

  • Top 100 self-made women in America collectively hold $124.25 billion in combined wealth.
  • California leads with 38 self-made women entrepreneurs.
  • Wisconsin, driven by figures like Diane Hendricks and Judy Faulkner, contributes $25.2 billion.

The collective wealth of the top 100 self-made women in America stands at an impressive $124.25 billion. This substantial financial achievement underscores the remarkable success and influence these women have amassed through their entrepreneurial endeavors.

According to Invezz, California emerges as a powerhouse, leading the nation with 38 self-made women entrepreneurs. Their combined wealth reaches a staggering $35.285 billion, constituting 28.39% of the total wealth amassed by self-made women entrepreneurs across the country.

These figures make sense, according to financial journalist and Invezz commenter Katya Stead:

Following closely behind, Texas and New York contribute significantly to this financial landscape. Texas hosts 12 self-made women entrepreneurs with a combined wealth of $10.86 billion, making up 8% of the total. Meanwhile, New York features 10 self-made women entrepreneurs with a combined wealth of $5.45 billion, contributing 4% to the overall wealth.

Wisconsin, though not as populous in terms of self-made women entrepreneurs, plays a notable role in the national wealth distribution. With a combined wealth of $25.2 billion, it represents 20.28% of the total, attributed to influential figures like Diane Hendricks and Judy Faulkner.

Commenting on the numbers in general, Stead says that the figures are “heartening for women everywhere, showing the important and still-ascending role that those who identify as female play in the international economy.”

However, she does add that “these figures, while encouraging, still show that there is much work still to be done in the race for equality, considering that the average salaries of male chief executives in the United States can reach as high as $200 million or more per year - significantly more than female counterparts with similar qualifications and experience.”
